SANTA ANA, Calif.—Santa Ana police have shot and killed a 27-year-old man in his home after he pointed a replica gun at them.
Police said officers were at Elmer Perez's home Thursday to investigate a domestic dispute with his pregnant live-in girlfriend.
Cpl. Anthony Bertagna says the man's family called police because he was acting erratically and was possibly on drugs.
Bertagna says the officers were worried that Perez was going to kill himself or harm his girlfriend or their 2-year-old son. The man's stepfather couldn't tell officers if the gun that Perez had was real or fake.
Bertagna says Perez pointed a replica Beretta automatic pistol at officers. He refused to drop the gun and they shot him.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
