IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. -- An off-duty Statesville police officer and his estranged wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide at a home in Iredell County on Tuesday night.
SLIDESHOW: Police Investigate Apparent Murder-Suicide
Iredell County deputies found Robert and Heather Przasnyski dead outside of a house on Whitetail Road at about 6 p.m. Deputies think Robert Przasnyski, who had been with the Statesville Police Department for three years, shot Heather Przasnyski and then killed himself.
A 4-year-old and a 7-year-old were inside the home at the time, but it’s unclear whether they witnessed the shootings. The children are in the custody of family members.
A co-worker of Heather Przasnyski, who was a beautician, followed her to Robert Przasnyski’s home and witnessed the shootings, Channel 9’s newspaper partner, The Statesville Record and Landmark, reports. The co-worker called 911.
Capt. Darren Campbell of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said the couple was estranged but was not sure if they were officially divorced. The Sheriff’s Office has not responded to any domestic calls involving the couple, Chief Deputy Rick Dowdle said.
Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson came to the scene and said he was stunned.
“It’s incomprehensible,” he said.
He added: “Our prayers are with the family."

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
