GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A Greenville County man charged with hacking his wife to death with a meat cleaver and leaving their 6-year-old son alone with the body has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and child neglect
Multiple media outlets report that 37-year-old Harvinder Singh was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday after entering the pleas. He was originally charged with murder.
Authorities say Singh admitted to killing his wife, 32-year-old Shivani Boparai after an argument in January 2009. An autopsy showed Boparai died of multiple knife wounds to her head and body just minutes before she was found by deputies.
Singh was arrested several hours later outside a nearby Walmart. Authorities said he was wearing a bloody shirt turned inside-out.
