Hawaii County police on Sunday charged a 47-year-old Mountain View man with murder in connection with the stabbing death of his wife.
Steven Dingle has been charged with second-degree murder. He was being held in the police cellblock in Hilo in lieu of $1 million bail.
Officers responding to a 6:23 p.m. call Saturday of an attack on Kamehameha Avenue in South Hilo found a woman who had been stabbed several times.
Citizens who witnessed the attack detained Steven Dingle.
The victim was identified as Catherine Dingle, 38, also of Mountain View. She was taken to Hilo Medical Center in critical condition and pronounced dead at 1:05 a.m. Sunday.
Police on Tuesday said they have not ascertained a motive for the stabbing.
