When authorities arrived to this home on KY 2003 Sunday afternoon, they say they found 50-year old Ray Hacker, Jr. lying on the porch and 52-year old Gerilyn Walerski dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the back of her head.
"According to witnesses, there at the home they were renting together, there was a lot of consumption of alcohol before the shooting and prior to the shooting, there was a heated argument between the two," says Trooper Chris Lanham, with Kentucky State Police.
Hacker now sits behind bars in Jackson County Jail, charged with murder, but he claims he doesn't remember shooting Walerski, just arguing with her to remove the rifle from their home.
Police say they are still investigating.
Neighbors say regardless of the outcome, they are saddened a woman has died so tragically in their small community.
Hacker says through he doesn't remember exactly what happened, he says he's devastated he's lost the woman he's loved for the last 10 years.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
