A Crownsville man killed himself with a single shotgun blast in front of his estranged wife Tuesday afternoon, Anne Arundel County police said.
James John Dean, 47, had earlier doused the home in the 2000 block of Saint Stephens Woods Drive with a flammable liquid and hid until his wife returned, police said. When she came through the door, Dean subdued her and made repeated threats to burn down the house and kill them both, police said.
Somehow, police said, she was able to persuade Dean to let her use her mobile phone. She took the opportunity to text message a friend, who then called police.
When an officer arrived at about 3:47 p.m., Dean could be seen sitting near his wife with a shotgun between his legs, police said. The officer yelled to drop the weapon, at which point Dean turned the gun on himself, police said.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?

Jim Dean was a loser from day one. He lived beyond his means to fill that empty soul of his. He beat up women because he was a pathetic coward. One less loser in the world!!!
