THIBODAUX — A south Lafourche man was killed during a Friday morning fight with his girlfriend, police said.
Ian Matherne, 35, of Larose, died from a “fatal wound” inflicted by the unnamed girlfriend, said Lesley Hill Peters, spokeswoman for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's
Office.
Matherne had been stabbed once in the shoulder with a kitchen knife, Peters said.
No charges have been filed and scant details have been released by authorities “due to the nature of the crime,” Peters said.
Authorities, summoned to the house on West 13th Street in Larose, said they arrived about 1 a.m. to find the woman performing CPR on an unresponsive Matherne. He was pronounced dead at the
scene.
The investigation is ongoing, Peters said, and it will be up to the District Attorney's Office whether charges will be filed.
Matherne was convicted twice of second-degree battery, in 1995 and 2008. Particulars of those cases weren't available.
An autopsy was scheduled for today.
CORRECTION: This article has been edited to reflect the following correction. Police identified the unnamed woman as Matherne's girlfriend, not his live-in girlfriend.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
