Echo Park - A 26-year-old man was behind bars on Friday for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death near Echo Park.
Deborah Alvarado, 37, of South Los Angeles was found bleeding in a roadway around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Mountain View Avenue, near Alvarado Street, said Officer Cleon Joseph of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Alvarado was taken to County USC Medical Center and treated for multiple stab wounds, but was later pronounced dead, Joseph said.
Simon Vega, 26, of Los Angeles, was detained by officers who acted on several tips and leads, Joseph said.
Authorities found "a bladed instrument," believed to be the weapon Vega used, at the scene, Joseph said.
Detectives later learned Vega and Alvarado had been dating for the past year.
Vega was arrested and booked for suspicion of murder. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
