HAZARD, KY (AP) - Eastern Kentucky authorities say a man gunned down his ex-wife as she was leaving a beauty shop and then killed himself as state troopers were moving in on him.
WYMT-TV reported that witnesses said Tonja Slone had just gotten her hair done at Terri's Beauty Shop in the Jacks Creek community of Floyd County and was sitting in her minivan in the salon parking lot when her ex-husband fired more than a dozen shots at her.
Police said David Slone unloaded his gun on his ex-wife, left the scene to get another weapon, and returned to continue firing on the mother of three.
A beautician tried to stop him from shooting but he refused.
Troopers said he fled after shooting at her the second time and then turned the gun on himself about a quarter of a mile down the road.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
