The fatal shooting of a robbery suspect at a Near-Northside apartment appeared to be self-defense, police said Monday.
Christopher Hampton, 38, Indianapolis, was shot and killed at 6 p.m. Sunday in the apartment in the 1500 block of North Pennsylvania Street.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Sgt. Matthew Mount said Brian Blevins, 24, Indianapolis, told investigators Hampton tried to rob him.
Blevins, who had a permit to carry a handgun, and two witnesses were questioned by detectives and released. The Marion County prosecutor's office will review the evidence.
Hampton was wearing an ankle bracelet for an unrelated invasion of privacy and violation of a protective order arrest on April 5. The Marion County Community Corrections Department lost track of Hampton on Friday when the battery on his ankle bracelet died.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
