PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A woman accused of fatally stabbing her ex-boyfriend has been ordered held without bail.
Evelyn Garcia Alvarez was arraigned in Providence District Court on Monday. She’s accused of stabbing her former boyfriend, Julio Garcia, during a fight in her apartment on Saturday morning.
Garcia Alvarez was referred to the public defender’s office.
Police Major Thomas Oates says Garcia Alvarez grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Garcia in the leg after he had begun assaulting her. He was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.
The Rhode Island Coalition of Domestic Violence called Garcia’s death "tragic." It said the death was the fifth involving alleged domestic violence in the state this year.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
