NEW YORK (AP/1010 WINS) -- A Brooklyn man is being accused of strangling his girlfriend with an extension cord and dumping her body in a Queens cemetery.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Friday that 45-year-old Muhammad Iqbal was charged with second degree murder. He's currently awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court.
Prosecutors say the man strangled 44-year-old Khadija Mahel, the mother of his two children, after an argument inside their apartment on April 13. They say he hid the body under his bed for more than 29 hours before wrapping it in a carpet and dumping the body at the cemetery.
The defendant faces up to 25 years to life if convicted.
The name of his lawyer was not immediately available.
