ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - An Orangeburg man has been arrested and charged with killing his girlfriend several months ago.
Officials say 26-year-old Carlos Kemp has been charged with murder in the beating death of 28-year-old Ebony Renne Bryant in May.
Bryant's body was found last week under a pile of trash.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said officers had been contacted in late June by Bryant's father, who said he had not heard from his daughter in more than a month.
Ravenell says officers questioned Kemp then and says Kemp provided information about Bryant that was later determined to be false.
According to an arrest warrant, Kemp admitted to killing Bryant.
Investigators said the domestic dispute started over money.
Erwin Davis lives at the Alva Street address where Bryant's body was found.
"Friday afternoon, I was sitting on my porch and all of a sudden I see cops coming from everywhere," Davis said. "Scared the the heck out me."
Kemp appeared before a magistrate Tuesday who advised him on his rights. It was not clear if he has an attorney.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
