AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A 29-year-old Austin man whom police say was set on fire by his wife last April has died of his burns.
The Bexar County medical examiner's office has ruled Bimal Patel's death at San Antonio Military Medical Center on Saturday a homicide. He had been in the hospital's burn unit since April 17, when Austin police responding to a reported domestic disturbance found him severely burned on his apartment floor.
His 25-year-old wife, Shriya Biman Patel, has remained in Travis County Jail in Austin on arson and aggravated assault counts since. Bond remains $1 million with a charge upgrade expected.
Investigators had said the woman lured her husband into a bathtub with the promise of a massage. Instead, they say she poured gasoline on him and set him afire.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
