FORT WORTH (October 8, 2011)—Tyra Ann Whitney, 42, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing her daughter's boyfriend by striking him with a hammer.
A Tarrant County jury Friday first found Whitney guilty of murder in the death of LeMarcus Bell, 24, and then later decided on the punishment.
Prosecutors said Whitney confronted Bell at the apartment her daughter shared with him after her daughter phoned and said she and Bell were fighting.
A shouting match ensued, and Whitney threw bleach in Bell's eyes, which caused him to fall to the floor in pain, prosecutors said.
While he was still lying on the floor, Whitney pulled out a hammer she had concealed and struck him in the back of the head.
Whitney testified she was trying to defend her daughter from an abusive boyfriend.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
