LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) - LaGrange Police are investigating a murder that took place Sunday morning that left a mother dead and landed her long-time boyfriend in jail.
Sunday morning, just before 10 o'clock, the LaGrange Police Department responded to a car accident near the intersection of Berryhill Circle and Ragland Street. A female victim was found dead in the driver's seat, but upon further investigation, police say it wasn't the accident that killed her.
They tell us 37-year-old Tonya Bray had been shot in the head. She was transported to the West Georgia Medical Center where she was officially pronounced dead.
As officers were working the crime scene, Jeffery Jones turned himself into police and told them he was responsible for killing his long-time girlfriend Tonya Bray. Police say he explained that he drove up beside her car and shot her before her car veered off the road and crashed.
We're told the couple had been together for 18 years and had children together.
Jones has been charged with murder and is being held in the Troup County Jail. The LaGrange Police Department is still looking into what lead up to this 4th of July weekend murder.
Tonya Bray was the mother of Quan Bray, a former Troup County High School receiver and Auburn University football player. Quan is currently an incoming freshman at Auburn after finishing his high school football career playing for his uncle Charles Flowers at Troup County. Quan's Auburn bio also lists Jeffery Jones as a parent along with Tonya Bray.
