A Garland man being held in the death of his girlfriend may face capital murder charges because the 19-year-old was pregnant when she died.
Decia Hartfield was found shot to death Thursday afternoon in her Oldsmobile in the 1700 block of Apollo Road at the Mission Spring Creek Apartments, police said. A relative of hers lives there, police said.
Ronnie Bass, also 19, was arrested at the scene and is being held at the Garland jail on a murder charge in lieu of $500,000 bail. It’s unclear if Bass is the father, police said.
“There’s a possibility of charging capital murder since there’s two deaths,” said Officer Joe Harn, Garland police spokesman. “We’re going to get with the district attorney’s office.”
A call to Jamille Bradfield, spokeswoman for the Dallas County district attorney’s office, was not returned Friday.
During questioning, Bass asked for an attorney, police said. He has no known criminal history.
Harn said detectives are still looking for a motive, as well as the gun.
