Gatesville, NC: Man, woman found dead in N.C. home

GATESVILLE, NC - A Gates County, North Carolina husband and wife are dead and the sheriff says it was a murder-suicide.

55-year-old Cecil Parker and his 48-year-old wife, Brenda, were found dead in their home off Highway 158 Friday evening. Sheriff Ed Webb says an autopsy showed Cecil Parker choked his wife then took a gun and killed himself.

"It appears she was strangled in the throat area. They found contusions and so forth consistent with that.... The male subject, the cause of death was the shotgun wound to the head." He said the murder-suicide may have been the result of a domestic situation.

According to the sheriff, "They had actually separated according to information from friends and family. They were hoping they could reconcile and work things out."

A neighbor, who wanted her identity withheld, said there are many unanswered questions. "It was a shock things ended up like this," she said. "I would have never thought this would happen. Very nice guy, always willing to help someone, and she was too."

The sheriff says he'll close the case now that the medical examiner has confirmed what investigators originally found.
