A woman is found dead behind a home with a gunshot wound to the face and now police are reportedly questioning a person of interest.

The apparent murder happened the same day HPD announced a 10-day murder-less streak.

It's was at the back of a vacant rental home on McKee at Burnett just North of downtown Houston that witnesses say someone shot a young Hispanic girl in the face and left her to die Tuesday night.

"We usually go to bed at around 8pm, and around 8:20 we heard a gunshot," said Samuel Ferro, a neighbor. It was early Wednesday morning when some men working on the property found the victim's body lying behind the home and called 911.

Plumbing technician, Travis Daily, said he saw the victim lying on her back, wearing shorts and a T-shirt and with an apparent gunshot wound under her eye. He said he was shocked at just how young she looked.

"She looked to be around 13 or 12 maybe," said Daily. "She was little, real little. It was scary... People shouldn't do that to little kids."

"We believe we have a person of interest in that case," said Charles McClelland, HPD Executive Assistant Chief of Police. "It appears to be some discard between a boyfriend and girlfriend."

"They knew each other and the boy's father had turned his son in," said Ferro. "He's in custody already... The boy is 17." As police continue to piece together what happened, they say this murder ends a rare 10-day homicide-free streak the city of Houston has had.

"Murders is one of those phenomenon that is very difficult to control because the majority of murders happen between known associates," said McClelland.
