TAMPA - A Tampa man is accused of gunning down his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend Wednesday night, police say.
Officers arrested 33-year-old Damien Michael Townes and charged him with second-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Charon Shaw outside a Tampa home.
It happened around 10 p.m. at 315 E. Woodlawn Ave.
Police say 911 dispatchers received a call from Townes’ girlfriend, Leah Waring, saying there was an incident involving her ex-boyfriend.
After hanging up the phone, police say she called again, screaming “get your hands off me” into the phone and crying.
Officers responded, and when they arrived on scene, they found Shaw in the front lawn.
He had suffered several gunshots to his upper body. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he died from his injuries.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
