ANDERSON — James Walter Metz III was charged Friday with killing his girlfriend of eight years, Holly Michelle Ford.
She was killed Thursday night at the couple’s house on Chestnut Boulevard in Anderson.
Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown said Ford, 34, died of a gunshot wound to the face.
Sheriff’s spokesman Chad McBride said Metz used a handgun to shoot Ford. McCown said Ford showed no other injuries and said nothing in the home indicated there had been a struggle between the couple.
Authorities have not said how many shots were fired.
Metz is charged with murder and with possessing a weapon during a violent crime.
Sheriff John Skipper said the couple were apparently involved in a dispute just before the shooting, which happened about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Skipper said Metz was at the house when deputies arrived and was taken into custody.
Metz, 49, was charged late Friday afternoon and is in the Anderson County jail awaiting a Saturday morning bond hearing.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
