ROMINE -- A woman was shot and later died late Sunday following a dispute with her former boyfriend, officials said today.
Huntsville Hospital officials said Trinity Sledge, 11562 Lauderdale 92, died from injuries suffered in the shooting. The shooting took place at her house, which is between Rogersville and Anderson in the Romine community of eastern Lauderdale County, sheriff’s investigators said.
Sheriff Ronnie Willis said Sledge and her ex-boyfriend Chris Fincher were flown from the scene by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital.
Fincher, according to hospital officials, is in critical condition in the facility’s neurological intensive care unit.
Investigators said the shooting was reported around 8 p.m.
Emergency personnel at the scene said Sledge and Fincher were both shot once.
Authorities said Sledge and her 10-year-old daughter had just returned from church when she was apparently confronted by Fincher.
Willis said the child reportedly witnessed the shooting.
“That’s what is so sad,” Willis said. “It’s a pitiful situation.”
He said investigators are talking to family members to see if they can determine what led to the shooting.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
