TRAVIS COUNTY -- A Travis County grand jury returned a murder indictment against a former local firefighter accused in the death of his girlfriend.
Joe Carr, 27, who worked for the Pedernales Fire Department is accused of the murder of 22-year-old Veronica Navarro of Spicewood.
Her body was found floating in Lake Travis on July 6 on the east shoreline of Pace Bend Park. The body had been wrapped in a tent weighed down with a paint can.
Carr was arrested a short time later trying to leave the country by entering Canada.
Bond for the murder indictment was set at $500,000. Carr is in custody from the previous charge of tampering with physical evidence, which also has a $500,000 bond.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
