EDINBURGH, Ind. (Daily Journal) - A Shelby County man was sentenced to 45 years in prison after he said he shot his ex-girlfriend out of jealousy, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner, the Daily Journal, reports.
The fatal shooting happened in February in Edinburgh. Kaye Ellis, 46, was found shot to death in her home.
Joseph Simpson, 44, of Fairland , pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and a firearms charge. He told the court he shot Ellis in the neck after discovering she was seeing someone else.
The shooting happened after an argument in her home, Simpson said. Their relationship had ended months before.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
