Castroville, CA: Sheriff’s deputies looking for estranged husband of murdered victim

By Kimber Solana

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking for Gerardo Castro, who they suspect of killing his estranged wife, Rosa Linda Coronel, late Monday night.
Cmdr. Mike Richards said it’s possible that Castro, 50, may be on his way to Mexico and is known to drive a silver or gray Nissan Altima.

Deputies said Coronel, 44, was found stabbed to death about 10:30 p.m. Monday at her home on the 12800 block of Via Linda in Castroville.

Coronel’s daughter, Fabiola Castro-Coronel, 25, said her brother discovered their mother lying on the living room floor.

Officials said they determined Coronel had been in a struggle with her attacker. Richards declined to say what weapon was used but said Coronel was stabbed multiple times.

Castro-Coronel described her mother as a driven, “wonderful” person who loved her children and grandchildren.

Coronel had recently obtained her beautician license and opened a beauty shop in Salinas two months ago, Castro-Coronel said.

“If she set a goal, she’d get it,” Castro-Coronel said.
