HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - Two days before Sabrina Markham was found shot to death inside her Hanover home, she was in court taking out a two-year protective order against her estranged husband, whom police say will be charged with her murder.
Ryan Markham was the subject of multiple protective orders and appeared in court on an assault charge, also two days before the killing according to court records.
Saturday afternoon, Hanover authorities say Markham entered the Candleberry Road house of his estranged wife and fired several rounds from an assault rifle, killing her. During the encounter, he also seriously wounded another man, who fired rounds from a handgun that struck Ryan Markham, according to the sheriff's office. Both men remain hospitalized.
Hanover authorities said the June 2 incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. Documents on file at the Hanover Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court indicate that on May 31, Sabrina Markham took out a two-year protective order against Ryan Markham. That same day, attorneys decided not to prosecute a misdemeanor assault charge against Ryan Markham stemming from a March 18th incident. Details about the arrest or the decision not to prosecute were not immediately available.
Court records also show that Sabrina Markham took out protective orders against Ryan Markham on April 3, 2012, and March 19, 2012. In addition, the Markhams took out emergency protective orders against each other in March of this year.
Court papers further indicate an attempt in 2011 by Sabrina Markham to collect spouse and child support payments from Ryan Markham in the amount of $325 per week plus $1,625 in back payments.
