FLINT, MI -- A Mt. Morris Township woman who authorities say fatally stabbed her boyfriend is scheduled to be in court today for a preliminary exam in Genesee District Court.
Janice M. Sanders, 44, is charged with open murder after authorities allege she fatally stabbed her boyfriend, Gerald Cochran, 45, May 13 at Birch Crest Mobile Home Park.
Few details have been released on the events that led to Cochran's death that night.
However, Sanders' attorney, Michael Ewing said she was acting in self-defense when Cochran was killed.
Ewing said Cochran abused Sanders for more than 20 years, and his client's face still bears reminders of the physical attacks, which included her eye being knocked out when she was hit by a 2 by 4 in 2003. Cochran was sentenced to 2 years 8 months to 4 years in prison for the attack.
Sanders faces up to life in prison if convicted.
