A 24-year-old Jupiter man was arrested Thursday on multiple charges after police say he pushed his pregnant girlfriend and killed their dog by slashing its throat with a razor.
Esteban Gonzalez was charged with animal cruelty, two counts of battery and criminal mischief.
Witnesses told police Gonzalez slashed the puppy's throat, then smashed its head on the concrete parking lot outside his apartment on Thelma Avenue, north of Center Street.
The animal died as police arrived and before Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control officers reached the scene.
According to a probable-cause arrest affidavit, Gonzalez had bloody hands and wet clothes when the officers arrived.
e said he was sorry he killed the dog, the affidavit said.
His girlfriend told police she had gone with Gonzalez to Lion Safari Country that day and that he was not acting normally.
When they arrived home, Gonzalez yelled for the dog to go outside with him, his girlfriend told police.
When the woman saw Gonzalez attacking the dog, she took it from him. However, Gonzalez took the dog back and pushed the woman away, the affidavit said.
After Gonzalez was placed into a patrol car, he began forcefully kicking a rear door. He struggled with officers as they removed him from the vehicle and tried to place restraints on his legs, police said.
