Detectives have confirmed that the shooting deaths of two people last week in a Sugar Land-area home were the result of a murder-suicide, the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said.
According to preliminary findings from autopsies performed by the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office, Jim Phillips, 46, of Houston, shot his 47-year-old girlfriend, Paula Simpson, and then turned the gun on himself, sheriff's office spokesman Bob Haenel said Tuesday.
The couple's bodies were found Thursday night in a bathroom of Simpson's home in the 2000 block of Cordelia Place in the Greatwood subdivision, authorities said.
Deputies were called to the two-story house about 10:40 p.m. Thursday by friends of Simpson who had gone there because they hadn't heard from her, Haenel said.
The estimated time of the shootings has not been released.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
