Police believe a 44-year-old man violently beat his girlfriend and killed her 22-year-old daughter before taking his own life in suburban Mundelein, Ill.
A 45-year-old woman who police believe had a relationship with the man reportedly returned to her townhome complex on Newport Street in the Chicago suburb at about 1 a.m. to find her 22-year-old daughter dead, at which point the man jumped, handcuffed and beat her, Police Chief Ray Rose told the Daily Herald.
"I would describe her injuries as someone who took a very violent beating," he told the newspaper, which reports that she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The body of the man was found in a running car with Wisconsin license plates at the intersection of Newport Street and Orleans Drive, after an apparent suicide Chicago Tribune reports. The two female victims reportedly moved to Mundelein from Wisconsin.
The victim's identities are being withheld pending family notification. Mundelein police told NBC Chicago that a death investigation is underway.
