BOSTON -- Investigators in Haverhill are trying to determine what led to the deaths of a man and a woman found in a vehicle near the Winnikenni Castle in Haverhill on Wednesday.
The victims are identified as Kristin Broderick, 37, of Houston, Texas, and Martha McDermott, 36, of Hampton, N.H., according to the Essex County District Attorney's office, which said the case appeared to be a murder-suicide.
They believe the pair was married.

The pair appeared to have arrived in separate cars, police said, one in a silver Volkswagen with Connecticut plates and the other in a maroon Volkswagen with New Hampshire plates. The silver car had a baby car seat inside.
The DA's office said there was no danger to the public, but people who live nearby and those who frequent the park said the couple's death was unnerving.
"Everything is so surrounded by woods here that, things have happened in the past. It's been a long time, but this is a surprise," said Janice Gillis.
The Winnikenni Castle was built in 1875 and is overseen by a foundation. It is open for public events during warmer weather but is currently closed for the season. One of the board members said he performed his daily noon check at the castle and found nothing out of the ordinary.
