Libby, MT: Eight-Hour Libby Standoff Results In Murder-Suicide

LIBBY, Mont. -- Authorities in Libby are investigating a shooting that left a husband and wife dead.
The Lincoln County coroner identified the two bodies found at the Libby home as 51-year-old Dale Kinniburgh, Jr. and his wife, 55-year-old Katherine Kinniburgh.
According to the Libby police chief, the apparent murder suicide began with a 911 call around 6:30 Tuesday morning.
"He basically said he just killed his wife and that he was going to kill himself,” described Chief Jim Smith. “Dispatcher was able to get a name from the gentleman and dispatched Libby police officers and Lincoln County sheriff's deputies."
By 8:30 a.m. the area had been secured and officers from various agencies had begun clearing people from the neighborhood. In a press release, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department says officials were familiar with man and that the safety of the public was one of their top priorities.
"Based on past law enforcement contacts with this subject we felt that for the safety of the community that we request assistance from the Flathead County Sheriff's emergency response team," continued Smith.
Members from the special response team arrived at the scene around 2:15 p.m. Neighbors say the team walked into the house, but no shots were fired.
Smith concluded, "They did a camera entry through the front window and in through a bedroom window and they discovered two deceased bodies in the house.”
