The Virginia man who shot and killed his wife on Saturday had learned a day earlier that she had filed for divorce, police said Monday.
Brian Grew, 54, shot Kimberly Grew, 51, four times with a .38 caliber handgun just after 8 p.m. and then turned the weapon on himself and fired once in their home at 1814 Wolf Road, according to a news release issued Monday by Virginia acting police chief Dennis Benz.
The couple had been separated for a short period, and on Friday Brian Grew received divorce documents that were to be filed by his wife.
An autopsy was conducted Monday and that information coupled with the reports of witnesses and an investigation by Virginia police, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol, among others, confirmed an earlier report of a murder-suicide. Two friends of Kimberly Grew were in the house at the time of the incident. No one else was injured.
The couple had no prior recorded history of any criminal charges related to domestic violence, according to a check of Minnesota court records.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
