La Mesa, CA: Suspect Dead in Officer Involved Shooting

An armed 35-year-old suspect was killed in an officer involved shooting inside a La Mesa neighborhood Friday morning, La Mesa police said.
La Mesa police dispatchers began receiving calls reporting a man with a shotgun in the neighborhood of 8300 Pine Ct. at around 11:18 a.m., police said.
Callers reported a screaming woman and a man with a gun, telling dispatchers that the incident might have been a domestic dispute.
Once officers arrived at Pine Ct. they received word that the man was walking toward Pine St., where they found the suspect, armed with a shotgun.
As officers began to approach the suspect, he allegedly racked the shotgun, as if chambering a round, and then pointed the weapon at police.

Police opened fire on the suspect, who was struck by at least one round before falling to the ground, police said.
Officers rendered medical aid to the man and called paramedics, though the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.
The suspect’s identify is being withheld until all of his family members have been notified, police said.
A search of the neighborhood ended after no additional victims or bullets were found.
Pine St. between University Ave. and Allison Ave. was closed until mid-morning on Saturday, as La Mesa police continue their investigation of the incident.
As of Saturday, police have yet to release information regarding how long the officers involved in the shooting were on the force.
