Lancaster County, PA: Lancaster County Man Charged with Killing Girlfriend and Unborn Child

Rapho Township, Lancaster County— A Lancaster County man is charged with killing his girlfriend and unborn child. Police say 22-year-old Matthew Becker shot and killed 21-year-old Allison Walsh, who was seven and a half months pregnant.

Reports first came in saying Becker was cleaning his gun when it went off, but District Attorney Craig Stedman says that's not what happened. He says the gun shot was meant to kill Walsh.

Walsh and Becker were living together at his parent's house on North Colebrook Road. Officers say the night this happened, Walsh had gotten into bed.

"Shortly after that, Mr. Becker went across to the other side of the room, picked up his newly purchased handgun, loaded it, cocked the slide back, walked towards her, pointed the weapon at her and shot her in the head," said Stedman.

Stedman says Becker didn't call 911, something he says that stands out in the case.

"911 was not actually called until Mr. Becker's parents came home. There was no one else home at the time," he said.

Stedman says emergency crews tried to save the unborn child and that she lived for about seven minutes. He says Becker had a motive.

"He was not happy about the pregnancy. He did not want to have the baby, that she was considering moving out and looking for a way to get out of the relationship and it's unfortunate that she wasn't able to do that," he said.

Stedman says Becker gave several versions of what happened that night. He says all of his stories have been inconsistent.

"There's nothing we can do to bring these lives back, but we're going to move forward and make sure that justice is done in this case," he said.
