Charleston, WV: Train death may have been suicide, police say

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Chesapeake police believe a man who was hit and killed by a train early Wednesday intended to commit suicide.

James Bradley Long, 28, of Kanawha Avenue in Chesapeake, was struck and killed by a CSX train before 2 a.m., said Chesapeake Police Chief Jack Ice.

He said members of the train crew reported seeing Long lying on the railroad tracks, but were unable to stop in time to keep from hitting him.

Ice said Long had a fight with his girlfriend earlier in the evening, and told her he intended to kill himself. Long told his girlfriend he was taking his wallet with him, because "it would be the only way they could identify him," Ice said.

Ice said the woman called police to tell them Long threatened to kill himself.
