JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man has pleaded guilty to killing his former mother-in-law.
As part of a deal with prosecutors, 34-year-old Joseph Tyrone Brown pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder. He had been facing a first-degree murder charge and possible death sentence. He now faces 40 years to life at his Sept. 2 sentencing.
Authorities say Brown went to the Jacksonville Beach apartment of 51-year-old Pamela Jean Cross in August 2008. Brown was upset at her for getting involved in a dispute between his ex-wife and him. An argument escalated, and Brown began beating and strangling the older woman.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
