SANFORD, N.C. — Harnett County sheriff's deputies arrested a Sanford man Sunday for the murder of a woman Saturday night at 68 Gabby Lane.
Deputies said they found Tammy Lynne Gaster, 46, dead in the bathroom of her home shortly after 8 p.m. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where it was determined that she had been stabbed.
Christopher Wayne Dixon, 25, of 434 Pyrant Road, is charged with her murder. He was being held at the Harnett County Detention Center without bond.
Deputies said Dixon and Gaster knew each other, but they did not release other information about the relationship.
Neighbor Vernon McAuley said he was "very sad" to hear that Gaster had been murdered. He said his wife knew her well.
"Tammy was a likable person," he said.
Neighbors told WRAL News that Gaster had been dating Dixon, but was trying to break up with him. McAuley said his wife had met Dixon in passing.
"She just said, 'Nice guy.' She had talked to him before (but) didn't see anything unusual about him," he said.
