DEERFIELD TWP. — A man accused of killing his girlfriend an hour earlier allegedly shot and killed himself today in a townhouse in this southern Warren County community.
Police and a SWAT team had surrounded the townhouse at 8263 Rollinghitch Court in Harbor Ridge at Landen when the man allegedly shot himself, according to Warren County Coroner Russell Uptegrove, who was responding to the scene.
The suspect allegedly shot his girlfriend around 4:08 p.m. in the stomach less than a mile away in front of Four Paws Pet Care and Kennel, 9520 Landen Drive. She was taken by ambulance to Bethesda North Hospital where she later died, Uptegrove said.
The father of the alleged shooter called dispatchers to say his son had a gun and was located at the Rollinghitch Court townhouse. Police had the home surrounded at 5:48 p.m. when shots were reported coming from it.
In radio messages, police said the man in the townhouse’s living room had a shotgun pointed to his chest and that another man, who was thought to be a hostage, was refusing to leave the townhouse.
A negotiator was on the scene as police evacuated residents near the townhouse.
