A man has been charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of his wife in South Austin yesterday, according to an arrest affidavit.
James Montgomery Boggs III, 45, is charged in the death of his wife, Cynthia Hegemier-Boggs, 49.
According to the arrest affidavit, paramedics arrived at a house in the 4800 block of Brighton Road about 4:30 p.m. yesterday after Hegemier-Boggs’ son called 911. He said he had been unable to contact his mother and drove to the house, where he met Boggs, his stepfather, the affidavit said.
Hegemier-Boggs’ son said Boggs walked out of a room carrying a bloody knife and asked if he wanted to see his mother’s corpse, the document said.
The son left and told 911 operators, “My step-father is inside the house. He just murdered my mom,” the affidavit said.
Officers and paramedics arrived and discovered Hegemier-Boggs dead, the affidavit said. She had been covered by a thick blanket, bed sheets, and a pillow, it said.
Boggs was discovered unresponsive near the home after ingesting a bottle of pills and had injuries to his hand, arm and throat, the affidavit said. He was taken to South Austin Medical Center for a suspected drug overdose, the affidavit said.
Hegemier-Boggs’ son told detectives that his mother and Boggs frequently argued and that he threatened to kill her with a baseball bat last summer, the affidavit said. They had been married since 2003.
After executing a search warrant, detectives discovered bloodied knives, cleaning supplies and empty prescription pill bottles inside the home, the affidavit said. Evidence suggests Boggs changed his clothes and attempted to conceal the crime scene, the affidavit said.
Boggs is not at the Travis County Jail, according to records, but may still be hospitalized and in police custody.
