The 32-year-old San Bruno man shot inside a vehicle earlier this week committed suicide in front of his girlfriend, according to the coroner.
Antonio Angelo Zimiga died from a gunshot Tuesday night after an alleged argument with his girlfriend on a street bordering South San Francisco and San Bruno. Authorities initially concluded the shooting was a suicide but labeled it as suspicious until Coroner Robert Foucrault concluded his investigation.
Zimiga died from a self-inflicted shot to his head, Foucrault said.
Zimiga was found shot inside his parked Honda at 61 Tanforan Ave. at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. San Bruno police responded to the call first, requested mutual assistance from the South San Francisco Police Department, which then took over the investigation.
Zimiga’s alleged girlfriend, 20-year-old Stephanie Rosales, was initially detained but released after her story was confirmed by the evidence.
Shortly after the incident, Zimiga’s mother told the Daily Journal she could not believe her son would shoot himself.
South San Francisco police Sgt. Joni Lee was not available Friday and others in the office said nobody else could comment on the case.
