MURRIETA - A hearing on pretrial motions is scheduled tomorrow in the murder of a former Marine who allegedly strangled his ex-girlfriend at her Murrieta home, then took pills in a failed suicide attempt.
Wade Griffin III, 41, is accused of killing 34-year-old Ever Council on March 19, 2007.
Council's boyfriend was talking with her on the telephone shortly before 10 a.m. that day when he heard her scream, and the call was disconnected, Murrieta police said.
The worried boyfriend drove to her apartment, her job, then back to her Advertisement
Mountainview Small Animal Hospital apartment, where he got the manager to open the door. Police were then called.
Council's clothing had been ripped or cut off her body, according to a police sergeant.
Griffin was found in the apartment, unconscious from a drug overdose. He was taken to a hospital and remained in a coma for a day or two.
The District Attorney's office opted not to seek the death penalty but Griffin faces life in prison without the possibility of parole because of a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
