REIDSVILLE — Police charged a Reidsville man with first-degree murder after discovering the body of his girlfriend on Wednesday.
Tavarus Maurice Scales, 21, of 803 Robinson Circle is being held in the Rockingham County Jail without bond and will appear in court Feb. 10, according to the police department.
Police found 23-year-old Melissa Morris dead from gunshot wounds at the couple's home after Scales called 911 about 9:30 p.m.
Police are investigating the death and have not determined a motive, Capt. Ken Hanks said. Hanks said Scales has no prior criminal record and the couple had no history of domestic violence with the police department.
Anyone with any information related to the crime should contact acting Lt. D. Muhammad at 347-2338.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
