An execution date has been set for a man convicted in the August 1991 murder of his wife in a Collin County apartment.
According to court documents, John Avalos Alba, 54, forced his way into the apartment where his wife, Wendy Alba, 28, was staying with a friend. Prosecutors said he shot his wife to death with a .22 caliber pistol before shooting her friend, Gail Webb.
Webb survived the shooting.
John Alba was arrested in Plano after a standoff with police.
The Bastrop County native is scheduled to be executed on May 25 in Huntsville.
Alba will be the second Collin County criminal scheduled to be executed this year. Adam Michael Sigala, 33, is scheduled to die by lethal injection March 2.
He was convicted for shooting and killing a man and his wife in Plano in August 2000. Police said he sexually assaulted the woman before killing her. He then stole several items of jewelry from the home and pawned them.
Sigala, a Tarrant County native, had an accomplice in the crime who was never charged, investigators said.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
