EAST ST. LOUIS • Authorities have identified the husband and wife who were found dead in their home Friday as the result of a murder-suicide.
They were Bennie Thomas, 28, and Antoinette Blanton, 24. Investigators believe the husband shot his wife in the chest with a handgun before shooting himself once in the chest. The shooting occurred sometime Thursday, said Danny Haskenhoff, chief deputy St. Clair County coroner.
Family members checking on the couple after failing to hear from them for several days and found them dead from gunshot wounds in the kitchen of their one-story brick home in the 600 block of North 23rd Street.
Their children, 3 and 1, were unharmed but covered in their parents' blood.
(Editor's note: Story has been updated to change the last name of the wife.)
