Four months after a Spring woman was strangled to death, her husband has turned himself in to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office detectives.
Investigators met with the District Attorney’s Office Monday and received a warrant of arrest for the victim’s husband, Ryan Lee Sumstad.
Sumstad, 36, surrendered Tuesday and was placed into jail, with bond set at $500,000.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were dispatched Feb. 21 to a residence in the 25500 block of Many Oaks Drive in Spring involving the investigation of a dead person.
When deputies arrived, a witness at the residence told them she had come to the residence to check on 34-year-old Christie Sumstad. When she arrived, she found the victim dead inside the home.
Sheriff’s Office major crimes detectives and crime scene investigators noted signs of a struggle and initiated an investigation. At the time, Justice of the Peace Edie Connelly ordered an autopsy at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the examine ruled the death as a “homicide by strangulation.”
The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have information about this case should call Detective David Eason at 936-760-5876.
