EAST ORANGE — The East Orange woman shot by her boyfriend before he fatally shot himself last night was in fact killed, contrary to what authorities reported Tuesday, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said this afternoon.
Latoshia Murray, 23, was shot multiple times shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening by Alex Fuller, 29, in the North Grove Street apartment the couple shared with their two sons, aged 3 and 5, the prosecutor’s office said. Murray was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m. at University Hospital in Newark. She was said to be alive as recently as this morning.
Murray’s sister and her boyfriend; that couple’s newborn; and Murray’s grandmother were also at the home at the time of the shootings, the prosecutor’s office said. No one else was injured.
The prosecutor’s homicide/major crimes task force is continuing its investigation.
The murder-suicide follows by 10 days that of a Hillside married couple, also with children.
On June 11, Richard Lewis, 45, stabbed Trecia Lewis several times and strangled her. Richard Lewis then got in the apartment’s tub and electrocuted himself. The couple left a 15-year-old daughter and an 11-year-son, neither of whom were harmed.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
