Humble, TX: Man questioned in Humble woman’s death was questioned in wife's slaying

HOUSTON—The death of a missing woman from Humble could have been avoided, according to the mother of a Houston woman found murdered in December of 2000.

Ida Young said she believes police dropped the ball in her daughter’s case, and left a killer on the streets.

“That’s something he has to answer to God for,” said Young.

Konya Young, 24, was slain in December of 2000. According to the death certificate, she was strangled
to death. Police questioned young’s common-law husband about the murder, but he was never arrested and never charged.

Ida said her daughter was afraid of him.

“That was my only daughter and he took her,” she said.

Last week, volunteers with Texas EquuSearch recovered the body of Lakendra Ware near her Humble home. Ware’s boyfriend is considered a person of interest in the case. He is the same man who was once married to Konya Young.

“Her life could have been saved if police had looked into it like they said,” added Young.

Detectives in Humble continue to question the man.

Houston police refused to comment, but said their investigation from 2000 remains open.
