A Pageland, S.C., man was shot and killed by a police officer Tuesday evening after he allegedly killed his wife and refused to drop his weapon, according to law enforcement officials.
The S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the case, which happened about 6 p.m. in the Chesterfield County town of Pageland.
SLED officials and Chesterfield County authorities say police were called to a house on West Evans Street at North Vine Street to deal with a domestic dispute. When officers arrived, they were confronted by a man with a gun.
A spokesman for SLED says officers repeatedly ordered the man to drop his gun, but he wouldn't. WCNC-TV, the Observer's news partner, says relatives of the couple said police also used a stun gun on the man, but to no avail.
At some point during the confrontation, a police officer fired at the man, killing him. Police then learned the man's wife was dead, the victim of a gunshot wound.
SLED is investigating the case, and the names of the two dead people have not been released.
