New Brunswick NJ: New Brunswick man indicted in slaying of girlfriend

A former Carteret man has been indicted in the homicide of his live-in girlfriend in March.
A Middlesex County grand jury formally charged Shawn Humphrey, 36, Thursday with strangling Dana Ciccolella, 32, in their apartment in Carteret sometime before her body was discovered the evening of March 21.
Humphrey is also charged with hindering his own apprehension by preventing Ciccolella’s children from entering her bedroom.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan said in March that family members found Ciccolella, a mother of four, unresponsive and contacted a friend who called police.
Humphrey was arrested in Penn Station in New York the day after Ciccolella was found and he was subsequently returned to New Jersey.
Ciccolella had three children, ages 13, 10, and 8, with her ex-husband and one child with Humphrey, according to friends. The children were brought to relatives after their mother’s body was discovered.
Humphrey was in the Middlesex County jail yesterday in lieu of $2 million bail, set after his arrest by Superior Court Judge Michael Toto, sitting in New Brunswick.
